ABOUT EMILY HOLLAND
Emily Holland is a motivated film student pursuing a BFA in Directing with a minor in advertising at DePaul University. Emily is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. She moved to Chicago, Illinois to further her education. She chose DePaul University because of its program that offers hands-on experience at its Cinespace production facilities, which is used to produce shows like Chicago Fire and Chicago PD.
Emily started her love for filmmaking in high school. She dabbled in photography for quite some time and became involved in a San Francisco photography movement called, Flaskmob. During her time with the growing group, she transitioned into making small films.
In 2016, Emily began seeking opportunities that would further develop her passion for filmmaking. She got involved in a program offered by the Cinequest Film Festival.
Cinequest is based in Silicon Valley and presents an annual film festival that attracts artists from around the world. Emily participated in a program that was focused on helping young people develop stories and learn the process of cinema. For the program, she created a short documentary-style film entitled Wrinkles. It explored the struggles of midlife when aging begins to play a larger role in people’s lives.
Emily went on to experiment with more documentary filmmaking. In 2017, she got involved with a non-profit called The Grateful Garment Project. This non-profit helps victims of sexual violence by providing clothing to victims after they submit a “rape-kit” at a hospital. Before this non-profit was established, many of these victims had to leave the hospital with just a hospital gown. Emily was moved by the work being done and wanted to spread the word about this organization. She combined her love of filmmaking with her passion for helping others and made a short documentary about The Grateful Garment Project.
Emily is determined to turn her passion for film making into her future career. She often works on student sets at her University and pursues any opportunities that will improve her abilities. During her freshman year, she was selected as one of two students that would represent DePaul at the Sundance Film Festival. This opportunity allowed her to meet and learn from a number of rising directors.
In her free time, Emily works on writing scripts and building a production design binder. She is committed to producing high quality results. She has excellent organization skills with strong attention to detail. Emily puts her all into what she does and pushes herself to constantly do more and be better.
